How to Make a DIY Water Filter at Home
Clean water = essential for survival.
But what if you’re outdoors or in an emergency with no clean water?
Build your own DIY water filter using simple materials!
What You’ll Need:
1 plastic bottle (cut in half)
Rocks (small & medium)
Coarse sand
Crushed charcoal (activated is best!)
Fine sand
A clean cloth or coffee filter
Contaminated water
Step-by-Step Guide:
- Prep the Bottle
Cut a plastic bottle and turn it upside down. - Add a Cloth Layer
Place cloth over the neck—acts as the last filter layer. - Fine Sand
Add a layer to catch small particles. - Charcoal
Crushed charcoal removes toxins, chemicals, and smells. - Coarse Sand
Helps filter out medium debris. - Rocks
Catch large particles like leaves and dirt.
How It Filters Water:
Water moves through each layer:
Rocks trap large debris
Coarse sand filters mid-sized particles
Charcoal absorbs chemicals & bacteria
Fine sand catches tiny particles
Cloth ensures clean, sediment-free water
By the end, the water is much cleaner and safer!
Important Reminder:
This filter improves water quality—but doesn’t fully purify it!
Boil the water or use purification tablets before drinking!
